Heat Can Kill
With a predicted heat wave coming to Central Queensland over the next couple of weeks, it's a good idea to take extra care of your loved pets in the extreme heats.
Dogs and cats have a very different thermostat to that of humans.
PLEASE ENSURE YOUR PETS HAVE:
- Constant access to clean cool water.
- Ice in their water buckets.
- A few water bowls in different places.
- Shade and shelter.
- Don't take your animal out for a walk until after the sun has gone down - the ground is still very hot and will burn their paws.
- Don't take your animal out in the car unless it is absolutely necessary.
- NEVER leave your pet in a stationary car as it takes less than two minutes for them to overheat.
- Preferably have them inside in the air-conditioning.
- Provide a small wading pool for your dog to cool off in.
Some signs of heat stroke in dogs and cats include, excessive panting, drooling, distress and collapse.If you are at all concerned that your pet may be suffering from heat stroke PLEASE CONTACT US ASAP on 4922 8138!
